Hysteroscopy

1. Basic description of the disease

Hysteroscopy is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure in which a thin, camera-equipped instrument (hysteroscope) is inserted into the uterus to view its interior. It is used to investigate abnormal bleeding, polyps, fibroids, uterine adhesions, or infertility issues.

 

2. Obstetric and medical procedures

Evaluation by gynecologist and medical history review

Ultrasound of uterus and adnexa

Assessment for anesthesia (typically local or light sedation)

Blood tests and infection/pregnancy check

Patient preparation for hysteroscopy

Performing procedure in OR or outpatient unit

Post-procedure monitoring and symptom control

 

3. Duration of hospitalization

Hysteroscopy is typically an outpatient procedure.

Total duration is often less than one hour.

In rare cases, short hospital stay may be required.

 

4. How to accept

Consultation with OB/GYN and hysteroscopy referral

Hospital admission and registration

Signing consent and pre-operative tests

Anesthesia consultation if required

 

5. Post-discharge interventions

Rest for 24 hours and avoid heavy activities

Take prescribed medications if needed

Mild spotting for a few days is normal

Avoid sexual activity for 3–5 days

Seek immediate medical care if fever, heavy bleeding, or abnormal pain occurs

 

6. When to see the doctor again

Follow-up visit 7–10 days post-procedure

Review pathology results if biopsy was done

Monitor return of menstruation and other symptoms
