Septoplasty

1. Basic description of the disease

Septoplasty is a surgery to correct a deviated nasal septum, which can cause nasal obstruction, sleep disturbances, or breathing issues. Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic or functional nose surgery aimed at reshaping the nose or correcting internal structures. Both procedures may be performed together.

 

2. Nursing and medical measures

Before surgery:

Full nasal examination and imaging (CT scan or endoscopy)

General health check and blood tests

Electrocardiogram if needed

Anesthesia consultation

After surgery:

Pain and bleeding management

Use of nasal tampons or splints

Nasal irrigation with saline as instructed

Avoid bending, nose blowing, or heavy activity

 

3. Duration of hospitalization

Most cases: outpatient or one-night stay

Special cases: up to 2 days

 

4. How to accept

Visit the ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) department

Complete medical file and imaging

Anesthesia consultation and pre-op preparation

Sign surgical consent forms

 

5. Post-discharge interventions

Rest and keep the head elevated while sleeping

Use prescribed nasal drops or sprays regularly

Care for nasal dressings

Avoid dusty or polluted environments

Contact doctor if heavy bleeding or fever occurs

 

6. When to see the doctor again

First visit: 3–5 days post-op for tampon/splint removal

Further visits: as advised (usually 2–3 times within a month)
