Tonsil surgery

1. Basic description of the disease

Tonsils are lymphatic tissues at the back of the throat. In children, recurrent infections or significant enlargement may require surgery. Tonsillectomy is usually performed due to chronic sore throat, sleep apnea, or difficulty swallowing.

 

2. Nursing and medical measures

Before surgery:

ENT specialist examination

Blood tests and anesthesia evaluation

Parental education on pre-op preparation

After surgery:

Pain management with medication

Monitor swallowing and nutrition

Avoid hot or hard foods

Educate parents for home care

 

3. Duration of hospitalization

The child is usually discharged the same day or after one night.

 

4. How to accept

Referral from pediatrician or ENT specialist

Medical file, blood test, and anesthesia consultation

Surgical consent signed by parents

 

5. Post-discharge interventions

Complete rest for a few days

Soft, cool, and liquid foods (ice cream, porridge, lukewarm soup)

Avoid running or strenuous play until fully recovered

Immediate medical attention if bleeding, fever, or lethargy occurs

 

6. When to see the doctor again

7 to 10 days after surgery for healing evaluation
