Varicocele

1. Basic description of the disease

Varicocele is an abnormal enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, usually occurring on the left side. It may cause discomfort, a feeling of heaviness, or male infertility. The primary treatment is varicocelectomy, a surgery that involves tying or sealing the affected veins to improve blood flow.

 

2. Nursing and medical measures

Before surgery:

Scrotal Doppler ultrasound

Blood and urine tests

ECG (if necessary)

Anesthesia consultation

After surgery:

Cold compress on the surgical site

Painkillers and antibiotics as prescribed

Avoid sexual activity until full recovery

Wear supportive underwear to reduce discomfort

 

3. Duration of hospitalization

Usually performed as an outpatient procedure.

One-night stay may be required if needed.

 

4. How to accept:

Visit urology or fertility clinic

Complete medical file and review test results

Sign consent form and prepare for surgery

 

5. Post-discharge interventions

Rest for 2–3 days

Avoid exercise, heavy lifting, or cycling for 2 weeks

Keep the surgical site clean and dry

Seek medical help for severe pain, fever, or unusual swelling

 

6. When to see the doctor again

First visit: 5–7 days post-op

Final check-up: after 4–6 weeks to assess recovery or fertility status
